- Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations.
- May direct the activities of a group or team of shop employees involved in a specific safety related programs. Works under the general direction of a safety manager, plant manager or other management position.
- Conducts safety audits of buildings, facilities, tools and equipment.- Determines safety training requirements and provides employees with safety training applicable to their work processes.- Investigates accidents to determine the root cause, circumstances and contributing factors.- Develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrence.- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of government safety regulations.
- Ability to effectively build and lead a productive work group; and to perform as a member of a management team. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
- Completion of a standard high school education supplemented by course work in related areas and extensive experience in plant safety; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which results in the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
