Responsibilities:  

  • Performs engineering functions, including analysis and design of structures, material and cost studies relative to assigned projects.
  • Work encompasses design, development and modification activities for tubular products of the Steel Structures Group. Documents research and design specifications.
  • Facilitates transition of product design and enhancement to full production/delivery.
  • Evaluates designs and products for compliance with regulatory and contractual standards in terms of material, stability and performance
  • Analyzes prospective customer’s specifications.
  • Consults with Supervisor and Marketing Development Manager and Customer for clarification and interpretation of specifications.
  • Consults with Supervisor and Marketing Development Manager as necessary for the design approach most favorable to TMUS assigned project.
  • Designs structures and appurtenances as interpreted from and described by customer specifications using aids (computer programs, charts, and curves) where applicable.
  • Prepares design calculations and cost estimating information of proposed designs for use by Marketing in bidding process.
  • Upon receipt of job order and project assignment from Supervisor, completes final designs of all the components according to the Jobscope releases, which may include designs other than those originally specified in the bid proposal.
  • Performs design calculations and cost estimating information of proposed designs as required by changes.
  • Resolves problems of ambiguity during drafting of shop drawings.
  • Reviews and redesigns as required by any customer changes.
  • As assigned by Manager, checks the design work of other Design Engineers, helps in scheduling Engineering resources and provides training support to fellow engineers as needed.
  • Works with applicable industry codes such as ASCE 48-11, NESC, AWS D1.1 

Requirements: 

  • Four years post-secondary education with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution. 
  • Experience in design of steel fabrication a plus.
  • EIT desirable
  • Familiar with drafting standard symbols, nomenclature, reference books and catalogs normally encountered in the product development process.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of established drafting standards; knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, both verbal and written.
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Solid time management skills
